MAKE YOUR NEXT FACIAL or MASSAGE

A WEEK LONG SPA RITUAL

By Kay Wagner LMP

You fly in the door and lie down on the massage table.  Your body is tense, your mind racing.  After fifteen minutes of being massaged, you relax.  Then in 30 minutes, the massage is over, your massage therapist tells you to drink water and you're off to your next appointment.

That is one way to have a facial or massage. Or, with a bit of planning you can enrich your experience with a week of healing rituals to help you get the most from your time on the table.

Choose one or more ideas for the week prior to your spa facial massage:

  • Massage in your moisturizer with gentle upward motion, adding extra water or toner to deeply hydrate as you spend a few extra minutes nourishing your face.
  • Gently Pat your face after applying moisturizer to tone, stimulate and increase circulation.
  • During your commute, roll your shoulders and use diaphragmatic breathing.  Your neck and shoulders will not feel like cement when you get massaged.
  • Drink lemon water.  If you weigh 140, drink 70 Oz. of filtered water daily (1/2 Oz. per pound of weight.)  Add fresh lemon and aim for one or two whole lemons each day.  This cleanses the liver and digestive system, and brightens your eyes and skin.
  • Shed the old!  Exfoliate your body with a salt scrub or ayate (natural fiber cloth).  Your skin is your largest organ of elimination.  When you exfoliate you increase circulation and cleanse internally.  A scrub will make your skin smooth and glowing. And removing the dead skin allows you to absorb the oils and aromatherapy used in your massage.
  • Soak and soothe.  Place 2 cups epsom salt, 1/2 cup baking soda and 1/2 cup sea salt in you tub.  Sprinkle a few drops of eucalyptus/mint essential oil in and prepare for a sensual, healing journey.  The magnesium in epsom salts relaxes muscles and detoxifies. Sea salt re-mineralizes and soda softens skin.
  • While soaking massage raw honey onto your face to nourish with enzymes, minerals and moisturizing cleansers.  Rinse.

Your face holds stress.  Facial massage energizes your facial muscles and relaxes tension. Acupressure points in your face increase energy to the entire body.

A good spa facial massage is heavenly.

Create a week of nourishment around your spa facial and find Nirvana.
